With nuke and maya moving to python should I drop MEL and TCL and just learn Python?

If your inclined to Programming then I would say yes, every major app currently supports Python and a great many tools and Pipelines are based entirely or at least make heavy use of Python. It sure seems to be in the future.

I would definately keep up to date with MEL. Both MEL and Python have their pros and cons in Maya. Ultimately Python is MUCH more powerful and flexible. And as Lyn stated, it is integrated in almost every app. TCL has some use depending on what you do. Cheers,

O'Reilly's "Python Cookbook" is also very useful.

Online book by swaroop called "A Byte Of Python" came in very handy for me.
