Very Interesting. Absolute pleasure absorbing the knowledge of both Clay and Daniel, (TED ROCKS!!!) and how it relates to our industry. (---ALWAYS Love the "candle problem" and for a non-practicing lawyer Daniel did a GREAT job of stating his case) Much Thanks!!

I mentioned this in another blog, or forum (---i forget which.. : ), but in regard to Coordination Costs and Cooperative Infrastructure it is very worthwhile to check out the advantages of RealityServer.

http://www.mentalimages.com/products/realityserver.html?gclid=CMjop7Hi9J8CFag65Qod7UzAdQ

It can become very technical, so for those that don't want to dive into it too deeply (at least initially), check out the piece I Directed on the opening page under "see video introduction to reality server". It's easy to digest and there are several others I Directed, we did there as well.

Amazing way for people to communicate with each other work collaboratively from around the block, to across the country / around the world in an extremely cost effective manner. Yes, there can be an institutional overhead but by working remotely its size is greatly reduced compared to that of larger / established shops. It is an excellent way of paraphrasing the intent of the speakers, "re-engineering the system" by taking advantage of "autonomy", "mastery" and "purpose".

Getting back to this specific topic, Aside from the information presented being a pleasurable viewing experience, I am highly interested to see how these factors come into play with the Aurora project...

Even if there is a just a TINY minimal amount of structure / guide lines, there can't be NO structure whatsoever when creating an animated project.

At the very least (---and this is an old-school animation project exercise to have students work with teams or under a deadline) you start with one aspect it leads to another in a designated time frame (anywhere from ten seconds to fifteen depending on the amount of pupils in a class) and then that last frame is handed off to someone else and they can do whatever they want form that point on for the same amount of time and then hand the last frame off to the next person...

----Limited structure but there is at least SOME minimal way to precede... How can we make this work with Aurora....? Stay tuned..?

SO i got an idea for your pet project. I went through google and posted it there, but wanted too pitch it directly here as well:

Supernova: Escape. A distant world is about to burn up from the inside out. The inhabitants flee their planet at warp speeds to a new dense jungle planet inhabited by strange life forms. The twist: They are microscopic, (--and have a shorter lifespan) and are leaving a light bulb as it is turned on. The jungle planet is a deep pile rug and the monsters are our pets and us (----we would be abstract because we would be so tall). The viewer doesn’t find out the twist until the very end, but when seen multiple times the clues are there…

The travelers encounter, giant robots (actually toys) and depending upon how dark we go with it, they can be killed off one by one (vacuum cleaner, flea powder, etc.) with the payoff we are viewing everything at their level if not “fist person” through one of the characters themselves). Only at the end we expose that we, humans, are the real monsters.

As you might know by now, i am pretty anal retentive. I think this medium would be extremely effective with working virtually, as well as being viewed on a smaller screen (--and larger as well).

Thoughts...?

i'd be well up for that steve. as long as i can work in my underpants!
this seems like that cloud way of doing things. hopefully the technology doesnt hinder the creative

Absolutely Chris!

A major factor of virtual collaboration IS the ability to work in underpants, at any and all times!!

Whoa... Excellent... Rod Serling must be grinning in Heaven. My thoughts? IF... the Heroes are actually MICROscopic, the Monsters they would face "on their level" would be gigantic & extremely hostile... considering that the hidden horrific world of DUST MITES (and their bizarre micro-relatives) is FAR more creepy than anything in FOX's "Alien" Franchise... At least if you were living in the shadows of towering Skyscraper-esque Strands of MEGA SHAG carpeting. Love the concept...!

Thanks for all the compliments Dave!

YEah i have been thinking about this project for a L-O-N-G time, I am fascinated with scale, size relationships and although his last couple of movies have missed he mark i do dig the MNight/Serling twist. The idea is becoming a full script treatment as we speak. (---I am even thinking down the road a bit in relationship to the booming, obscure sound design really working well, and have the company that will do that aspect already on board!).

On a side note, and why i posted the concept on this page originally, although, I think it would be a GREAT piece for the Aurora project, and i do think Aurora is a VERY cool idea (---i totally enjoy voirtual collaboration!!!), and both since (1) i am a Director and (2) i have a specific storyline: "Supernova" IS something i want to retain in control of as the Director.

I might be totally off base here, Marcus (?) but based on the other treatments i read, the Aurora project is much more loose, free form, with not "one distinct creative vision" which as a Director is exactly what I am proposing... If i am wrong GREAT then it applies, but if not then Pet projects is more of an appropriate venue and i apologize for pitching it for Aurora.

SO, David, Chris, anyone else, lets continue this conversation on the "pet projects" portion of this site, where i have also set this up... , or contact me directly through VFX Connection. Supernova can be a very COOL, unique project, and working with people from around the world on it seems like a fresh and fun approach.

It could work for the Aurora Project but your vision must be compelling enough to persuade the majority of the collaborators. If they prefer another direction they will just vote for it instead.

I put the brief treatment up on the established site, and the more robust version here. I guess we'll see what happens.
